This is a private meeting co-hosted by two societies, so a member in good standing should receive an email invitation with instructions on how to reserve your spot for this meeting. This meeting does include lunch and a presentation about the early colonies. This co-hosted meeting is a long standing tradition with the Sons of Liberty Los Angeles Chapter of SAR and the Society of Colonial Wars of California. Always a spectacular event!

Also invited are First Families of Maryland, Order of the Founders and Patriots, Society of the War of 1812, and Military Order of Foreign Wars.
Attire is Business Casual, SAR men wear a coat and tie.

We are pleased to have Professor Edward J. Larson, winner of the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for History for his book, Summer of the Gods: The Scopes Trial and America’s Continuing Debate Over Science and Religion (1998). Some of his other books include The Return of George Washington (2014), Franklin & Washington: The Founding Partnership (2020), and Declaring Independence: Why 1776 Matters (2025). Professor Larson received his JD from Harvard University, and his PhD in the history of science from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has lectured on the history of science, religion and law in the US, Canada, China, Britain, Australia, and South America.
His topic is
“From Loyal Subjects to Independent Citizens: Colonial America’s Rapid Political Shift from 1775 to 1776”
