Commander’s Page

Thank you for your service to the young people participating in ROTC/JROTC. Every unit participating in the annual Massing of the Colors will recieve an SAR ROTC Medal and certificate for their outstanding cadet.

SAR ROTC Medal

The SAR ROTC Medal is approved by the United States Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force. Each service has notified its ROTC Units of this approval and has authorized presentation to its cadets or midshipmen. Cadets in non-ROTC programs such as Naval Sea Cadets receive the SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal.

Recipients are selected for a high degree of merit with respect to leadership qualities, military bearing and general excellence. The recipients are selected by the Commanding Officer of the ROTC unit, who should be given full latitude in making the selection.

The Silver ROTC Medal, authorized in 1933, is presented only to students in a university ROTC unit. The Bronze ROTC Medal, authorized in 1965, is presented only to students in secondary school JROTC units. No recipient may receive either medal more than once. Miniature is not available.

Medal Certificate Templates

Each medal presented to your unit comes with a certificate you can personalize for your outstanding cadet. Templates for the certificates can be downloaded by clicking the links below. The template is a simple Word document. You simply type the cadet’s name in the appropriate area, load the signed certificate you received in your printer, and print. Please print a test copy before printing your certificate, as replacement certificates are $20 and may take 4-6 weeks to receive.

The fonts used in the templates are “Arial” and “Old English Text MT.” If you do not have these fonts installed on your computer, they are available on the Web. Just search the font names and install on your computer.

The winner of the State competition will be entered into the National Outstanding JROTC Recognition program. The winner of the national program will receive a special award at the SAR’s National Congress.
