SUMMARY:General Membership Meeting 19 September 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Sons of Liberty Chapter will hold an IN PERSON General Membership Meeting.\n\n\n\nPlease join us on Saturday, September 19th at 12 noon until 2:00\nThis is Constitution Week (Sept. 17-25) which commemorates the signing of the American Constitution in 1787.\n\n\n\nThe Tam O’Shanter has been a regular meeting place for Sons of Liberty Chapter SAR for years, and we are pleased to meet at the Tam!\nThe Speaker is Sandy Adams, (Rear Admiral, USN, Ret.) who will speak on women in the US Military Nevertheless She Persisted. \nCome hear the inspiring story of women’s military service since they were first allowed to do so in 1901.  Did you know that happened 20 years before women had the right to vote!?  Rear Admiral (Ret) Sandy Adams will share amazing insights into how women served their country and brothers in arms, and did so voluntarily despite decades of restrictions limiting their ability to serve.  You will also learn about the Military Women’s Memorial, based at Arlington National Cemetery.  It is the largest memorial dedicated to honor and remember the service of all US military women.\n \nRear Admiral, Lower Half (Ret) Sandy Adams, USN\nRear Adm. Adams comes from a military family and served for 34 years during her active and reserve Navy career. She earned her BA degree from Michigan State University and her MA from the Naval War College. She retired from the Navy in 2015 and from her civilian career in 2018.\nAs a Surface Warfare Officer, she reported to her first of two ships in 1982 just four years after women could start serving at sea. She had the honor of commanding five Navy units, and served in operational commands in the Mediterranean, Pacific, and Middle East over her career.\nHer deployments included to Afghanistan in 2010 where she served as a senior advisor to an Afghan Minster of Defense, and in 1990 to Saudi Arabia for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm.\nAfter being promoted to Rear Admiral (O7), she served primarily as the Deputy Commander, Navy Expeditionary Combat Command which included 20,000 Sailors serving around the world.\nAs a civilian, she served as a leader in manufacturing and supply chain roles, retiring as an executive from Raytheon in 2018.\nSandy joined the DAR in 2023 as a member of the El Redondo Chapter and was installed as their regent June 2024. She volunteers as a California Ambassador for the Military Women’s Memorial, and as a Chairman’s Flag Council member for the Navy Surface Museum based on the Battleship Iowa.\nThe more people present, the better! Make plans to attend our regular meeting at the Tam!\nThere is no official dress code, but most of our members wear a coat and tie to attend our General Membership Meetings. If you’d like to buy an official SAR tie, speak with our Treasurer at our next meeting!\nFor questions, contact us.
