SUMMARY:General Membership Meeting 16 May 2026
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nThe Sons of Liberty Chapter will hold an IN PERSON General Membership Meeting.\n\n\n\nPlease join us on Saturday, May 16th at 12 noon until 2:00\n\n\n\nThe Tam O’Shanter has been a regular meeting place for Sons of Liberty Chapter SAR for years, and we are pleased to meet at the Tam!\nThe more people present, the better! Make plans to attend our regular meeting at the Tam!\nCompatriot David Morrow will present Patriots of Color.\n\nPatriots of Color: Untold Stories\nBy estimates, nearly 9,000 Black Patriots fought for American independence, equaling 4% of soldiers and militiamen. Unfortunately, many scholars and researchers only know the actual names of a few Black patriots. What is even more disheartening is that the descendants of these Black patriots have no clue of their families’ significant contributions to the very founding of this great nation. Attorney David Morrow will discuss his Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) application journey and how he was aided by modern digital tools that broke down genealogical brick walls. He was the first in his family to prove lineage to a Black Patriot (Saunders “Sandy” Burnett).\nBio: David L. Morrow II is General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs at Campfire Studios, where he oversees legal and business affairs strategy for nonfiction television and film projects. The Emmy Award-winning studio is behind acclaimed titles including America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, The Menendez Brothers, and American Murder: Laci Peterson for Netflix, as well as WeWork: or The Making and Breaking of a $47B Unicorn for Hulu. Over the course of his career, David has advised Fortune 500 companies and an AmLaw 100 law firm, bringing deep experience in legal writing, corporate law, governance, and complex dealmaking across the media and entertainment industries. He is an active voting member of the Television Academy and a member of the Beverly Hills Bar Association.\nBeyond his professional work, David is deeply committed to history, genealogy, and cultural preservation. His research and community engagement focus on family history, African American heritage, and the ways genealogy can deepen our understanding of identity, resilience, and place. He serves as State Genealogist for the California Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, Vice Chair of the Sons of Liberty Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution in Los Angeles, and a member of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee of the National Genealogical Society. He also hosts Culture Conversations, the National Genealogical Society’s quarterly YouTube series. Through his speaking, research, and public history work, David is passionate about making these stories accessible, meaningful, and relevant across generations. He resides in Los Angeles with his wife and two kids.
